Janet Bishop, Senior Project Designer

I am a Florida Licensed Interior Designer that has provided professional interior design services for over thirty years in South Florida. I also facilitate and coach interior design students at Indian River State College regarding Commercial Design, Aging and the Elderly, Codes, Principles of Interior Design, Materials and Components, Textiles, and Kitchen and Bath.

Leading to my career in interior design I started my journey of exploring interiors by converting an unused barn on family property into a studio by utilizing found objects (crates, braided rugs, fabrics, pictures, recycled furnishings, etc.) Growing up on a farm outside of Louisville, Kentucky, I found many interesting spaces to creatively change for my highly imaginative theatrical appetite.

(This may be why I appreciate designers such as Frank Gehry. or Michael Graves. I like designs that imbue an element of whimsical FLAIR). I appreciate the dichotomy of Gehry’s personally re-cycled house and the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

I am married and have three children. Sean, the last in the nest, GRADUATES next year from Palm Beach Gardens High School. We also have one dog named Ollie, who always has a tennis ball ready!

Best part of your job? The best part of my V starr experience is to see the progression of everyone’s growth within our interior design team, while at the same time knowing that we provide quality services to our clientele. The satisfaction of being part of a creative and productive team is an amazing feeling at the end of the day.

Biggest design challenge? A big challenge for many interior designers today is staying abreast of the latest trends not only in interior design but technology. In our fast paced society we need to continually seek knowledge that will keep us on the leading edge of interior design.

Anything else you want to share with the world? I earned a Master Degree (MA) in interior design from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).

I am presently working on my doctorate; Ph.D. in Philosophy/ Education and by this year-end will have accomplished 39 credit hours toward my degree in e-learning. Expected award date for a doctorate degree is late 2016 – early 2017.
